State Fire Marshal Personnel Standards and Education (PS&E)

Client: Office of the State Fire Marshal

In 2000, MSF&W was awarded a contract by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal to develop the Personnel Standards and Education System. The initial project converted a mainframe system into a PowerBuilder/Sybase client server application.

The major system functions included:

  • Fire Department and Firefighter Roster Information
  • School/Organization Training approvals for State Programs
  • Firefighter Training and Certification for State Programs
  • Firefighter Testing of State Exams
  • Administration of the Grants-in-Aid program

Since the implementation of the Personnel Standards and Education System, MSF&W has continued to support the system. Due to changes in the Illinois statutes and because of new procedures within the Division of Personnel Standards and Education, changes and enhancements have occurred. These include:

  • Extensive Automation of Rule checking and determination of qualification for certification
  • Data Import from the Illinois Fire Service Institute
  • Web access for Fire Departments to update their information and enter forms online
  • Upgrade software platform including conversion to Microsoft SQL Server
